3 in custody after hitting police car while fleeing abandoned home

A suspect ran into a police cruiser while attempting to flee an abandoned home Monday night in west Charlotte, police said.

Just after 9:15 p.m. a call came into police, who were already in the area for an unrelated robbery, concerning a car parked at an abandoned home near the intersection of Crispin Street and Bost Street.

Upon arrival, officers approached the suspect vehicle and the vehicle took off, hitting the officer's car while attempting to get away. The officer was not injured.

As a police chopper was already in the area, they were able to follow the suspect car to a home on Allenbrook Drive. CMPD said there was three suspects in the car, all of whom were located and detained.

CMPD said they're trying to determine what they were doing at the vacant house and why they ran.

This is an ongoing investigation.
