3 injured in east Charlotte apartment fire

Charlotte Fire Department is investigating an apartment fire where three people were injured early Monday morning.

The fire happened about 6 a.m. at the Ashby Point Apartments on Teal Point Drive near North Sharon Amity Road.

Charlotte Fire Department told Fox 46 Charlotte, when they arrived, there was visible smoke coming from the roof, people on the grass, and people standing on their balconies. An immediate evacuation and rescue operation took place. 

Three people were treated for smoke inhalation, and according to medic. One patient was transported with potentially life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.
