Rock Hill, SC - A Rock Hill toddler has died following a shooting Sunday, the York County Coroner's Office announced Monday.
Savion Barrow was transported to Piedmont Medical Center Sunday after accidentally shooting himself inside his home on Ameilia Avenue in Rock Hill. The 3-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Investigators say the child's mother was in the room with him when the shooting happened. It was not immediately clear if the mother knew the child had accessed the weapon but investigators were checking to see if the mother was on any substances at the time of the shooting. It was not immediately clear how the child got access to the weapon, which is legally owned by the child's mother, police said Wednesday.
The Rock Hill Police Department is continuing to investigate. Authorities are discussing whether or not to pursue criminal charges.
The Department of Social Services is also investigating.
When Fox 46's Caroline Fountain went by the home Monday, relatives declined to comment and said Savion's parents were out of the home making funeral arraignments.
An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
