35 birds killed after fire breaks out at Carolina Waterfowl Rescue

35 birds ended up gaining their angel wings on Sunday night. A fire broke out in the medical barn at Carolina Waterfowl Rescue in Indian Trail, North Carolina.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. In addition to the 35 birds who died, 50 more birds are still fighting injuries such as burns and smoke inhalation.

One of the favorites at the rescue, Mr. Stubbs, lost his feet due to frostbite before he was rescued in Tennessee.

“He’s a survivor,” said event coordinator Melissa Reynard. Mr. Stubbs has now survived his second fire. He is on oxygen, but looks to be okay.

While the situation is a tragedy for the rescue, the community is stepping in to donate supplies and money for medical expenses and rebuilding.
