44 arrested following 8-month investigation by CMPD, federal authorities

The U.S. Attorney's Office made a major announcement Tuesday, stating 44 individuals have been arrested following an extensive 8-month-long investigation by federal officials and CMPD.

Authorities said the 44 people arrested in the Charlotte area were taken in on drug and gun charges as part of a coordinated local-state-federal operation.

CMPD's Violent Crime Taskforce spent months investigating, with arrest teams capturing the 44 suspects on Monday and Tuesday. The VCT was able to get indictments on 56 people during this operation.

Chief Kerr Putney commented Tuesday on the arrests stating, "Charlotte is safer today because of this work. Career criminals have been taken off the streets."

Some suspects are still wanted, Chief Putney said. Officers continue to make arrests Tuesday.
