5 remain hospitalized after awning collapse, district hosts meetings for concerned parents

Eighteen students from South Iredell High School were injured when the truck carrying their instruments backed into a concrete awning causing it to collapse at North Iredell High School on Saturday.

One female student had her leg amputated from the knee down.

The South Iredell High School band was scheduled to play in Saturday’s competition.

On Monday both North Iredell High School and South Iredell High School held meetings for concerned parents.

Students have raised more than 20 thousand dollars to help the families involved.

Classmates are using the hashtag #BandStrong on social media to show their support.
