LINCOLNTON, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A record 117 pounds of cocaine, worth about $6.4 million, was seized during a traffic stop in Lincoln County, authorities said.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said deputies stopped a vehicle on the Gastonia Highway on May 8 because of suspicious activities and several traffic violations. After speaking to the driver, they said they used the drug dog, Anya, to conduct an open air sniff around the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle turned up cocaine weighing 117 pounds, the largest anount ever in Lincoln County.
"The street value of the cocaine was estimated at $6.4 million and is by far the largest drug bust ever in Lincoln County," deputies said.
The driver of the vehicle, Jason Evan Williams, 48, of Spring Street, Goldsboro, NC was arrested and charged with felony trafficking in cocaine by possession, by transport and maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for a controlled substance.
Williams was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $2 million secured bond.
