A restaurant staple for many during the lunch rush is temporarily closed

A restaurant staple for many during the lunch rush is temporarily closed. Police say a 25 year old driver slammed into the front of the Lupie’s Café early Thursday morning. Officers caught up with the driver and cited him for hit and run.

Lupie Duran, the owner, says she has insurance and interruption of business insurance to help her pay for the loss.

"I employ a lot of people here who depend on what we do. My guys have been her 20 years or plus. I want them to be taken care of. I don't want them to have a loss just because I have a loss," said Lupie Duran, owner of Lupie’s Café.

But the timing, she says, couldn't be worse.

"The Christmas Show is going on. This is the busiest year of our whole year. This whole property is my whole world and a lot of people' world," said Lupie.

This isn't the first time the building's been hit. She says another driver crashed into the other side of the restaurant several years ago. That makes this accident the second one in nearly three decades that the restaurant has been on this corner.

Lupie says she hopes to have the eatery up and running in about a week. We’re told the driver who hit the building surprisingly wasn't hurt.
