ACC championship game declared extraordinary event

The Queen City will play host to the ACC championship game this weekend and law enforcement is taking no chances when it comes to the public’s safety.

The game has been deemed an extraordinary event in Charlotte and that means there will be safety measures implemented.

Charlotte’s Center City Partners heard from CMPD officers on Thursday about the crime rate in Uptown.

Even though violent crime numbers are down, officers say the amount of manpower on the streets at big events is up.

Officials say deeming the game an extraordinary event gives police the chance to add safety measures, like searching people’s book-bags.

Officers say the best thing people can do to protect themselves is to be on the lookout.

“I believe everyone says this around the country now, if you see something, say something. That’s the biggest preventive measure that we can take right now. If you see something that is unusual than says something.” Major Gerald Smith, said.
