CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — The University of North Carolina has updated its campus alert, giving the all-clear, saying there is no immediate threat to campus. The alert said there was an attempted kidnapping near campus.
Campus police spokesman Randy Young said the alert was issued around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday when someone reported seeing an armed man near the school's Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps center.
Young says sirens were sounded to warn students and faculty to shelter in place.
Young says that officers have blocked at least one road and are searching the area, and that no suspect has been located.
