CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Another delay has been announced for the I-77 toll lane project.
The contractor says the northern section of the toll lanes will not open by the end of the year as expected. They blame the delay on weather, operational challenges and changes to the project.
“I-77 Mobility Partners set an ambitious goal for itself to open lanes by the end of 2018. In collaboration with Sugar Creek Construction and NCDOT, we have made significant progress to improve this important corridor. We are adjusting our timeline due to factors like expanded project scope and unforeseen weather events,” CEO of I-77 Mobility Partners Javier Tamargo said in a statement.
The new opening date for the section from Hambright Rd. to exit 36 in Mooresville is now the first quarter of 2019.
“We look forward to opening the lanes in 2019 and offering drivers a new transportation option from uptown Charlotte to Mooresville," said Tamargo.
The entire toll lane project is expected to open next summer.
