Apartment complex debated in Waxhaw

The first-ever apartment complex in Western Union County may soon be coming to Downtown Waxhaw.

Historic Ventures, LLC plans on developing more than 200 apartment units off Church Street in Downtown Waxhaw.

Apartments are already approved under the current zoning ordinance and this project would be approved directly by the Waxhaw Planning Department -- not Town Council.

Waxhaw's Town Manager Warren Wood said the developer has presented preliminary plans on the project and it is currently being reviewed. The Planning Department will send back its necessary changes by Friday, Sept. 11.

"This isn't a rubber stamp," Wood said. "Staff is going to review and go through the proposal, through the plans, and make sure it goes with what our code says.

"The staff is not necessarily and advocate of the project but we are an advocate for going through the process."
