Ardrey Kell teacher suspended after concerns about 'possible inappropriate behavior'

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools teacher and coach has been suspended following concerns about possible inappropriate behavior, according to school officials.

In an email addressed to families, Ardrey Kell High School Principal David Switzer announced that Brian Zelk has been suspended with pay.

The grade 9 through 12 math teacher was suspended on October 1, 2018.

"Concerns about possible inappropriate behavior by a CMS employee at Ardrey Kell have been brought to the attention of law enforcement and CMS Human Resources. At this time, these concerns do not involve current CMS students," Principal Switzer said.

Zelk will remain suspended with pay from CMS pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.

"Any concerns or reports of possible inappropriate behavior or violations of CMS conduct policies are investigated thoroughly," Principal Switzer said. "The safety and well-being of students is top priority at Ardrey Kell and on every CMS campus."
