CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - During a violent robbery, a suspect held a gun to an employee's head at a Bojangles in north Charlotte. Now police have released security video hoping to catch the robber on the run.
There’s no word how much money the crook got away with. It happened April 19 on Highland Shops Drive.
“With guns there’s not much you can do to defend yourself against that,” said Becca Gwen who shops nearby.
In the video, the suspect points a gun right at the worker’s head as he struggles to open a locked drawer. Then, the worker is seen pulling out a bag of money from the safe and giving it to the robber.
FOX 46 Charlotte spoke with a man who found himself in a similar situation at a restaurant around the corner.
“He pulled the gun out of nowhere and it’s just like wow!” said the man who asked not to be identified. “I knew the gun was real because I could feel the weight against my head.”
Also seen in the video, employees race of the door. The gunman made an employee lay on the ground before he took off.
“It would be easy to get away quickly but there would also be a lot of people around,” said Gwen. She and Jacok Diskin said they would go back to the restaurant.
“It’s a very safe area from what I know,” said Diskin.
Bojangles said in a statement: Our team members working the evening of April 19 were understandably shaken by the incident, and we are very thankful no one was injured.
