CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 Charlotte) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say they have made an arrest in a 1995 sexual assault cold case.
Police say on July 14, 1995, the 17-year-old victim was walking home from work on N. Tryon St. when an unknown male armed with a knife grabbed her. The male forced her behind a business, where he sexually assaulted her.
The victim was treated at the hospital and a sexual assault kit was collected. Police say the kit was initially tested in 1995. Additional testing was then completed in 2018, as a part of a federal grant CMPD received.
Christopher Lynn McNear, 52, is charged for his involvement in the case, according to police. DNA evidence identified McNear as the suspect.
McNear was arrested in September and later taken into custody. He is charged with first degree rape and first degree kidnapping.
McNear is currently a registered sex offender.
