Arrest made in 2011 hit-and-run death of pedestrian in Gastonia

A 26-year-old man from Georgia has been arrested in connection to a 2011 fatal hit-and-run in Gastonia, police said. 

Lucas Heath Fuller, 26, of LaGrange, Ga., is charged with one count of felony hit-and-run. 

The incident occurred in the late evening hours of Saturday, August 27, 2011 as Sheila Patterson, 54, of Gastonia was walking on West Franklin Boulevard near Trakas Boulevard when she was struck by a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire.

She was found by a passing motorist the next morning and transported to CaroMont Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte where she succumbed to her injuries on Monday, August 29, 2011. 

GPD’s Traffic Enforcement Bureau was able to successfully identify Fuller as the driver of vehicle after a citizen came forward with new information.

Fuller was taken into custody without incident at the Gastonia Police Department on Jan. 1, 2018.
