Arrest made in CATS bus crash that injured 6, killed 1

There has been an arrest in the CATS bus crash that injured six people and killed another.

CMPD says Brandon Crew has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving and violating license restrictions.

Benjamin Davis, the front passenger of Crew's car died at CMC-Main on Thursday, November 26, from injuries he sustained in the crash.

The accident happened in Uptown early Tuesday morning, November 24, at the Oaklawn Avenue bus stop at Ethel Guest Lane around 8:05 a.m.

CMPD says Tequilla Long was driving the bus and stopped at the bus stop in the 1000 block of Oaklawn Avenue to pick up a passenger. She began to accelerate when she noticed a car driven by Crew coming from the opposite direction.

Crew drove out of his lane, through a turn lane and into the oncoming traffic lane. The car hit the CATS bus head-on, according to officers.

All three passengers of Crew's car were taken to CMC-Main. Crew suffered serious injuries. Davis suffered life-threatening injuries and later passed away, according to police. Markies Crew, the rear passengers, had minor injures, according to CMPD.

There were three passengers and the driver on the CATS bus. All three passengers were taken to Presbyterian Hospital for minor injuries. The driver was not injured.

This crash is still under investigation by the Major Crash Investigation Unit.  Any witnesses are asked to contact Detective Kevin Allred at 704-336-8862.
