Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have made an arrest in the Labor Day weekend shooting death of a man in northeast Charlotte.

Authorities have charged Quincy Dushawn McWaine, 18, with the shooting death of Elias Izagirre Perez. Perez was pronounced dead in the 1100 block of Glenfiddich Drive following the shooting.

Five people were killed over the violent weekend in Charlotte. Among those killed was a 7-year-old boy. McWaine is the first arrset following the holiday weekend crime wave.

Since the shootings, police have largely blamed the crime on rival gangs. Dozens of guns were confiscated and 95 people were arrested in a crime crackdown that followed.
