Richburg, SC - RICHBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say they busted a dogfight as it happened in Chester County and arrested three people.
Investigators said the raid happened after they received a tip about an early morning dogfight this weekend in Richburg.
The Humane Society of the United States said in a statement that four dogs were rescued, including two with extensive injuries that apparently had just happened. The animal will receive veterinary treatment.
Chris Schindler, senior manager of animal fighting response for The HSUS, said: “Dogfighting is barbaric and illegal, and we were pleased to be able to assist in this case. The agencies involved have shown that they will not allow this activity to fester in South Carolina. Thankfully, the dogs rescued in this case will never have to face another fight.”
Several vehicles were towed and 30-year-old Rowena Hay, 30-year-old Roger Cook and 19-year-old Angela Hutchins were arrested and charged with dogfighting. They remain in jail awaiting a bond hearing.
The Humane Society says about 100 people were watching the dogfight.
