Authorities search for woman accused of firing shot at Cleveland Co. deputy

Authorities are searching for a woman who fired a shot at a Cleveland County deputy Tuesday afternoon in Boiling Springs right outside the city limits.

Two narcotics investigators stopped at a home for a drug investigation around 1:30 p.m. Officers began to approach the home when a white Kia Soul pulled into the residence. Officials say Travis Lamar McKinney and Brianne Smith were inside of the vehicle.

McKinney stepped out of the vehicle with a gun behind his back and started to verbally assault the the deputies causing them to shock him with a taser and take him into custody. He is being charged with assault on a government official and possession of a firearm by felon.

Smith stepped out of the vehicle and fired one shot at the deputies. She got back inside the Kia and drove off in what is believed to be a rental car.

No one was hurt in the shooting and deputies could not return fire because there was a lot of vehicle traffic and it would not have been safe to do so.

Deputies are searching for the white Kia Soul and Brianne Smith. Smith will be charged with  assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill a government official when she is caught.

If you have information on the whereabouts of Brianne Smith please contact Cleveland County Sheriff's Office.
