Belmont Abbey College student accused of sexually assaulting another student on campus

A student at Belmont Abbey College has been arrested in connection to a reported sexual assault on campus, according to the Belmont Police Department. 

Zachary Thomas Harvath, 18, was charged with first-degree forcible sex offense on Monday, March 5 following a thorough investigation into reported sexual assault allegations made by another student. 

Harvath was arrested without incident and is currently being held at the Gaston County Jail on a $250,000 secured bond. 

Police said this case is believed to be an isolated incident and not a random act. 

Belmont Abbey College is a private liberal-arts Catholic college located in Belmont, North Carolina, about 15 miles west of uptown Charlotte. It was founded in 1876 by the Benedictine monks of Belmont Abbey.
