Billboard in South Carolina promoting legalizing medical marijuana

A billboard has gone up in Columbia, South Carolina promoting the legalization of medical cannabis for veterans in need.

A billboard has gone up in South Carolina endorsing the legalization of medical marijuana.

The billboard, which is located in Columbia, calls on government officials to take action to legalize medical cannabis in support of the Compassionate Care Act, which would establish a plan in South Carolina.

Steven Diaz, a local Marine veteran and purple heart recipient, is featured on the billboard. Mr. Diaz was severely injured by an IED in Iraq.

"When seeking help veterans already face a stigma," Diaz said. "They shouldn't be stigmatized further for wanting medical cannabis as a treatment option."

32 states have adopted comprehensive medical cannabis laws so far.

"There is a growing body of evidence demonstrating that it is a safe and effective treatment for PTSD, and chronic pain," said Matthew Nichols, a Marine veteran from Charleston.

The billboard is about a mile away from the Statehouse.
