Boone Police Department is requesting the public's help in finding two suspects involved in a "change raising scam."

The incident happened Sunday, July 12, at the Chipotle Restaurant off Blowing Rock Rd. in Boone. Police say the two men ordered and gave money to the cashier and requested change. After receiving the change the man made follow up requests for additional change, according to police. This resulted in the restaurant being scammed and suffering a loss of money.

The suspects are described as middle age. One suspect is of heavier build with glasses and jewelry and missing a lot of teeth. The other suspect is of a lighter build.

This type of scam is known as a “change raising scam” or a “short changing scam.” The suspect made multiple transactions in a short amount of time which confused the clerk into thinking that it was correct. Boone Police says if you are working in a business and you are approached by a customer or person seeking change, conduct only one transaction at a time.
