Cabarrus County Teacher Arrested for Sexual Relationship with Student

Kannapolis police arrested Ricky Durden Jr., 31, and charged him with 4 counts of sexual activity with a student after police say they found evidence he was having an inappropriate relationship with a female student.

Durden is a teacher, women's track coach, and an assistant football coach at Jay M. Robinson High School. He started working for Cabarrus County Schools in August 2014.

A representative of the school system says he's been suspended with pay until they finish a personnel investigation.

"We take these allegations very seriously and are working very closely with local law enforcement to ensure the safety of our students," Ronnye P. Boone with Cabarrus County Schools said.

Police started investigating after they got an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip. They say Concord police were also investigating.

Durden is in jail with a $100,000 secured bond. Kannapolis Police say the investigation is on-going.
