Cam Newton throws first-pitch to close Knights home season

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton surprised fans by showing up to BB&T Ballpark to throw out the first pitch of the final home game for the Charlotte Knights this season.

Newton says throwing a baseball is a lot different than throwing a football.

"You had nobody running at you and trying to take your head off," Newton said.

The Knights are expected to finish atop the minor leagues in attendance for the second-consecutive season -- averaging more than 9,000 fans each night. It will host the AAA All Star Game next season and believes its prime to lead the league in attendance once again

"The way that Charlotte is laid out and the growth in our great city I just see this thing moving along," Charlotte Knights Chief Operating Officer Dan Rajkowski said.
