Charges dropped after owner turns over monkey

The owner of a monkey who escaped and and sent officials on a chase appeared in court Tuesday morning.

Carter the monkey has been cared for by CMPD Animal Care & Control since the incident in March. Carter's owner turned over her ownership rights in return for having all charges dropped against her.

Carter was cleared of his quarantine in April and will now be taken to a primate sanctuary through the North American Primate Sanctuary Alliance. 

Carter was found in the CMC University parking lot on Wednesday, March 25, around 5:15 p.m. University Security personnel were able to corner Carter under a vehicle until an Animal Control Officer arrived, according to CMPD AC&C.

The officer captured  the monkey with the help of a family member of it's owner.
