Charlotte Fire Department hosts fire training camp for girls

Girls across Charlotte are learning to become firefighters at a new camp offered by the Charlotte Fire Department.

Camp Ignite was inspired by a similar camp in Tucson, Arizona. It's the first fire camp in North Carolina designed exclusively for girls.

Over the week, high-school aged girls will participate in fire training exercises.

Charlotte Fire has more than 1,000 firefighters but fewer than 40 are women.

The goal of the camp is to get more females interested in firefighting while teaching problem solving and life skills.
