Charlotte looks to become a major college football city

The University of North Carolina vs University of South Carolina game has a huge impact on a city that is trying to brand itself as a top spot for college football.

Most UNC and USC fans traveled more than an hour to get to the Bank of America Stadium for the first college football game of the year. Bringing their passionate cheers and dollars to Charlotte.

Fans of college football's top teams will be coming to Charlotte for a while. In addition to hosting the ACC championship and the Belk Bowl. Charlotte will host the University of Tennessee and West Virginia University in 2018.

UNC and USC will continue their rivalry in Charlotte in 2019 and 2023 as well.

All of this puts Charlotte in a position the city wants to be in. As the Queen City is being eyed by college football executives as a possible national championship location in either 2019 or 2020.

More than 50,000 tickets were sold for Thursday's game. Each school will get a payout of $3.2 million.
