Charlotte man arrested following police chase on I-77

A Charlotte man is facing multiple charges after he led deputies on a high-speed chase along Interstate-77 before eventually being caught in Mooresville. 

According to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, a deputy attempted to pull over a vehicle at the intersection of Wilson Lee Blvd and Garner Bagnal Blvd early Friday morning for motor vehicle violations.

The vehicle, driven by Ryan Maurice Willis, 32, did not stop and drove to the on-ramp to I-77 southbound. Once the deputy got out of his patrol vehicle, Willis sped away. 

The Iredell County deputy followed Willis, attempting to pull the car over. Mooresville police were called in to help and deploy spike-strips when the chase entered their city limits. 

The vehicle ran off out of the road and the suspect, Willis, ran away on foot. 

Two passengers inside the vehicle were detained by law enforcement. They told deputies that they had told Willis to stop the car several times. Willis was located nearby a short time later. 

Willis has been charged with felony flee to elude, felony possession of schedule II controlled substance, misdemeanor fail to stop for blue lights and siren, misdemeanor reckless driving to endanger, misdemeanor driving while license revoked, misdemeanor resist obstruct delay, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, revoked registration plate, and speeding in a work zone. 

Willis is currently being held at the Iredell County Detention Center on a $20,000 secured bond.
