CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are hosting a seminar designed to help religious leaders focus on safety and security in light of recent incidents in the city as well as in Charleston, South Carolina.
The department is hosting a House of Worship Safety Seminar on Friday. There will be two sessions, the first of which starts at 9 a.m.
A news release says the seminar will focus on personal safety, building security and active shooter responses.
In June, fire caused damage to Briar Creek Road Baptist Church in Charlotte. The fire came one week after nine people were shot and killed during Bible study at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston.
