Charlotte teen arrested for striking Fort Mill school crossing guard

A Charlotte teen has been arrested after Fort Mill Police say he struck a school crossing guard and left the scene Friday afternoon.

Fort Mill Police responded to Springfield Pkwy. at the entrance to Fort Mill Middle School around 2:50 pm regarding a crossing guard who had been struck by a vehicle.

The guard, 58-year-old Gary Tate, of Charlotte, was taken by ambulance to CMC-Pineville, according to Major Bryan Zachary of the Fort Mill Police Department. 

Officers investigated and located the driver of the vehicle, Johnny Clifton IV, 19, of Charlotte, and arrested him.

Clifton is charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving minor injury. He is currently being held at the Fort Mill Police Department Jail under a $5,000 bond.
