Charlotte woman accused of leaving child unattended while shoplifting

A 24-year-old Charlotte woman is facing serious charges after being arrested for not only shop lifting but also child abuse.

Amanda Meeler was arrested after she tried to steal items from the Wal-Mart on Hawley Avenue in Belmont.

Employees of the store called police because Meeler looked impaired but was still carrying around her 5-month old baby.

After an investigation it was revealed that the child was left unattended and had not been cared for and that the child was covered in urine.

The baby was put into protective custody and later was given back to his grandmother.

Meeler was charged with concealing merchandise and child abuse. Meeler's bond has been set at $25,000.
