Chester, SC - A fifth grade student died Wednesday after being hit by a car Tuesday while at his bus stop in Chester County, according to school officials.
La'Darious Tyres Wylie was waiting at his bus stop on Ashford Street in Chester Tuesday morning when a car hit him. Emergency crews transferred the child to Levine Children's Hospital in Charlotte. He was a student at Chester Park Center of Literacy through Technology.
Counselors are in school to assist with students and staff. La'Darious has siblings at COLT, Chester Middle and Chester High, according to school officials.
"We are deeply saddened by the death of our beloved COLT student, La'Darious Wylie. He was greatly loved by everyone that knew him. He was a great student, classmate and friend. His infectious smile will forever be remembered. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family," school principal, Dr. Tammy Graham said.
School officials say a GoFundMe account has been set up to help pay for the funeral and provide comfort to La'Darious' family.
Law enforcement is investigating the accident, and the school system says it's working with them.
