Chesterfield County Girl Found, Police Seek Stepfather

A nationwide Amber Alert has been canceled for a Chesterfield County teen on Monday morning.

Officials tell FOX 46 that 14-year-old Alexis Deas was found at a family member's home in Chesterfield around midnight on Monday.

Authorities are searching for Alexis' stepfather Donell Melton. They say Melton is Deas' stepfather, and that he was having an inappropriate romantic relationship with her.

Investigators say Donnell Melton checked the teen out of New Heights School on Friday without telling her mother. He told school officials that he was taking Deas to a dental appointed. Alexis' mother reported her daughter missing after she did not return home from school on Friday afternoon.

Investigators with the Chesterfield Sheriff's Department say that Melton took Alexis to Franklin, North Carolina. Melton then contacted his father about he and the teen's whereabouts and that's when officials say Melton's father drove to Franklin, North Carolina to pick up the teen.

Melton's father dropped Alexis off at a family member's home in Chesterfield Monday morning and the family member contacted law enforcement.

Authorities are still searching for Melton. He has green eyes, short hair and a full beard. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall and 150 pounds.

Law enforcement have warrants out on Melton for kidnapping and interfering with custodial rights.
