China's ambassador visiting NC to mark big New Year holiday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — China's ambassador to the U.S. is visiting North Carolina to celebrate the Chinese New Year for what officials say is the first time the country's envoy has marked the big Asian holiday outside of the District of Columbia.

Chinese Ambassador Cui Tiankai (sway tee-ehn-kye) and his wife are holding a New Year reception on Wednesday in Charlotte.

The Chinese Embassy said in a statement the event highlights North Carolina as an important trading partner with a dynamic and growing Chinese community. Chinese officials say they are looking forward to more trade, investment, tourism, and educational exchanges with North Carolina.
