For years, Sgt. Josh Hamlin and the Gaston County Police Force have been bridging the gap. Hamlin said, "Some people, their first encounter with a police officer is getting pulled over or us showing up to their house." The Gaston County Police Department has been opening it's doors to the public for 22 years, hoping to let them in on the people behind the badge.
Hamlin said, "It's a service job, that's what we are here for, we serve and protect." But recently, police officers nationwide have been given a bad rep, after a string of police involved shootings across the country. It prompted a local state Representative to file a bill, aimed at protecting citizens.
