City officials: Stormwater drainage concerns during rainfall

The heavy rainfall’s not only making drivers miserable, but homeowners are also now being forced to take extra steps to make sure their property doesn’t flood.

County officials tell us what’s making the rain more hazardous is the amount of leaves falling this time of year.

There are 150,000 storm drains all over Mecklenburg County.

County officials say at any point a clogged drain could cause flooding if it’s not taken care of before the rain starts.

The Storm Water Services crew says besides drainage issues, another problem they’re seeing is over-flooded creeks.

Officials tells us they’ll be monitoring rainfall along creeks and streams.

If you see any dangerous flooding along roadways or standing water, you’re asked to call 911.

Any non-emergency concerns should be directed to 311.
