CMPD charges man in deadly southwest Charlotte shooting

CMPD has charged a man for his involvement in a shooting that left one man dead and a woman injured. 

Canell Johnson was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. 

Police say the incident happened at two locations. 

On Tuesday night around 11:15 p.m. officers received a call to the 6100 block of Coolbrook Court in reference to a disturbance.

When officers arrived they spoke to a man who told them he did not need help. Officers searched the residence and did not find anyone else and left.

On Wednesday at 12:14 p.m. officers responded to the 300 block of Archdale Drive in reference to an assault with a deadly weapon, according to CMPD.

When they arrived police found Tonya Carter, 43, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was taken to CMC with non-life threatening injures, according to Medic. 

Not long after officers responded to the Colbrook Court home in reference to an assault with a deadly weapon. When officers arrived they found Terrence White suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. White was pronounced dead on scene by Medic. 

Officers discovered Carter and White were inside the residence on Colbrook Court when they were shot. Carter was taken by an acquaintance to Archdale Drive where they called 911.
