CMPD has arrested a Charlotte Mecklenburg School Police Officer for indecent liberties with a minor.

A criminal investigation began on Monday, August 10, and discovered that William Stitt inappropriately touched and fondled a known victim on Friday, August 7, according to CMPD.

CMPD says the victim in this case was not someone that Stitt would have come in contact with during the extent of his employment.

On Tuesday, August 11, police arrested Stitt without incident. Once his interview by Crimes Against Children Unit Detectives is complete he will be taken under the custody of Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

Stitt was hired as a CMS Police Officer in August 2005. Stitt works at Berryhill K-8 and police say he has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal charges. Stitt is a former Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Officer. He was hired by the department September 1977 and retired July 2005.

Anyone with information concerning this case or the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.  Detective O’Dell is the lead detective in this case.
