CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A person was killed Sunday night after running their vehicle off the road, striking a utility pole and a tree in Matthews, police said.
At 7:34 p.m. Sunday, November 5 officers were called to a single-vehicle crash at Colonel Francis Beatty Park located at 4330 Weddington Road.
Upon arrival, police found a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu which had run off the road, striking a utility pole and a tree. Medic pronounced the driver dead on scene.
CMPD's preliminary investigation shows the vehicle was traveling on the roadway inside the park towards Weddington Road. The vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane before driving off the roadway. The vehicle then struck a light pole and a tree.
The driver was wearing a seatbelt, police said. Speed is not a contributing factor in the crash. It is unknown if either alcohol or drugs are contributing factors.
The driver’s name is being withheld pending family notification.
