CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) - CMPD expecting thousands to ring 2018 at Romare Bearden Park on New Year's Eve.
Police want those attending they'll be visible to make sure things run smoothly.
"You will see an increase in police presence there," said Major Gerald Smith. "You will see officers walking around, you will see officers on bicycles and you will see officers with patrol rifles."
CMPD says this year they won't have their towers at the event, but that doesn't mean they wont have eyes in the sky.
"We don't have our sky towers this year because we are putting officers in empty vacant condos and in the parking decks to get a better view so we do have officers keeping an eye on that," Major Smith said.
The department is anticipating more than 6,000 partygoers to attend the New Year's Eve celebration.
They add despite all their security measures, those in attendance need to make sure they're alert too.
