CMPD investigating homicide in south Charlotte apartment

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a murder that happened Tuesday night.

The call for service came in at 10:55 p.m. on Tuesday at the 1500 block of Seneca Place.

Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service. 

When officers arrived they found Donsha Seren Rankin, 20, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Rankin was pronounced dead on scene by Medic.

The individuals were inside an apartment on Seneca Place when the shooting happened. Police believe Rankin and the suspect knew one another.

According to the incident report, investigators seized an AR-15 rifle with ammunition from Rankin's apartment.
