CMPD: Man arrested after stealing car, leading police on chase

A man has been arrested after stealing a car and leading police on a chase in it, according to the Charlotte-Meckleburg Police Department. 

Around 4:00 p.m. officers spotted a green Buick that had been reported stolen. The driver of the car, Clenton Currence, 40, is from out-of-state and wanted on charges in Mecklenburg County. 

Officers attempted to stop the car, but Currence refused and led police on a chase. 

Eventually, the vehicle was stopped on Avalon Ave. in west Charlotte. Currence and a passenger in the vehicle were taken into custody. The passenger was questioned and released on scene. 

Currence was arrested and is being held in Mecklenbug County.
