CMPD: Man charged with assault, resisting arrest

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested a man after they said he attacked two people. 

John Sowell, 18, is charged with two counts of assault on a government official and resisting arrest. 

According to CMPD, officers responded to a domestic violence call along Idlewild Road. Reports indicated Sowell was assaulting his girlfriend again. 

While two officers were taking Sowell away from his girlfriend, he began attacking them. 

Officers shut down Idlewild Road between E. WT Harris Boulevard and Braewick Place Wednesday due to the incident. The road reopened shortly after.
