CMPD obtains warrant for "Piggyback Bandit" after man assaulted at airport

Charlotte Mecklenburg Police have obtained a warrant for a man who has been accused of assaulting another man at the airport. He is being called the "Piggyback Bandit." 

Officers are charging Sherwin Shayegan, 34, with simple assault after he was accused of rubbing a 20-year-old man's shoulders at Charlotte Douglas International Airport in April of 2017.  

Shayegan, has made headlines in other cities as the "Piggyback Bandit."

The victim, who is a Florida resident, called Charlotte police on Jan. 4 after seeing a news report about Shayegan who was arrested for a similar incident at the Newark International Airport.

According to Port Authority, at about 3:10 p.m. on Dec. 29, a 14-year-old boy stated that he was "touched by another person in a sexual manner," while retrieving his luggage from a terminal at the airport. The boy described Shayegan in detail and stated that he had began massaging his back without his permission. 

In both cases, the victims said that after the assault Shayegan handed them envelopes that contained money and a note thanking them for allowing the massage.

Shayegan was later found and arrested by Port Authority Police at the Marriott Hotel at Newark Airport. Police also found several disturbing notes and money in envelopes with various US airports written on them in his hotel room.
