The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department wants drivers to slow down.
Starting Tuesday officers are hitting the street to catch speeders in the act. It's called 'Operation Slowdown Charlotte.'
The department will be looking at seven areas where accidents occur the most, because of speeding.
They'll start patrolling those areas, looking for anyone driving above the speed limit and pulling them over.
"This is an operation that will target or focus on speeders in certain quarters, reckless drivers. There's no coincidence that we're staged her off E. Independence Blvd. There are a lot of wrecks reported out here," Rob Tufano Public Affairs Officer of CMPD said.
The seven high-traffic streets CMPD will focus on are:
- East Independence Boulevard
- East W.T. Harris Boulevard
- North Tryon Street
- Beatties Ford Road
- Central Avenue
- Providence Road
- South Boulevard
