CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) - Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department took almost 20 deserving children on a shopping spree at the Target in Midtown Saturday morning to help them buy Christmas gifts for their friends and family.
CMPD has been selected to receive the Target Corporation’s Heroes & Helpers Grant for $1,000. The purpose of the grant is to promote positive interactions between police officers and children.
The grant provides a $50 Target Gift Card to a total of 20 elementary-aged children. Students from Billingsville Academy and Mallard Creek Elementary School were selected to receive this year's gifts.
The children that have been selected for this grant will also be provided gifts through the CMPD Explorer’s Christmas Project.
On Friday, CMPD celebrated the swearing-in of 34 new officers.
