CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A 19-year-old has been charged with murder in connection to a deadly shooting that happened back in January in north Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
Furquan Ali Thompson has been charged with first-degree murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill in connection to the death of 53-year-old Carnis Ferdinand Poindexter.
On Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019 at 2:58 a.m. CMPD officers were called to the 8300 block of Highlander Court in reference to an assault with a deadly weapon. Officers located Poindexter who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Thompson was taken into custody on Tuesday, March 26. He's currently being held at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office. This investigation remains active and ongoing, police said.
