Cold weather causes flooding at Charlotte hotel

Guests at the extended stay America off Pineville Matthews Road in south Charlotte had to evacuate because of flooding.

A Charlotte fire inspector says one of the sprinklers burst around 2 p.m. forcing water to gush out.

Parts of the front lobby and first floor hallway have water damage.

People returned to their suites about an hour later.

Crews stayed busy in other parts of Charlotte as well with busted pipes and water leaks including one at East Park Avenue and another at Tom Hunter Road.

One way to avoid having your pipes burst is to leave the faucets dripping.
