Salisbury police and County Commissioners have joined forces to offer a $20,000 reward for the murder of a 7-year-old girl shot in her sleep.

On Sunday, little Ayanna Allen and her grandmother were shot in their home on Harrel Street. Police believe this investigation is connected to another shooting that happened just two miles down the road that same morning.

“That young lady went to bed thinking about Christmas and she was murdered there in her bed in something she had nothing to do with,” Salisbury Police Chief Jerry Stokes said.

Police were called to Ayanna’s house at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, where Ayanna was found dead on scene. Her grandmother was shot in the leg and rushed to the hospital.

Police told FOX 46 Charlotte they have reason to believe Ayanna’s murder was connected to what they call a similar shooting just two miles down the road. Police responded to a call at 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning where 22-year-old Sharod Raheen was found with gunshot wounds. He was transported to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center and later died from injuries.

Investigators said they have received more help from the community in this case than in others, and told FOX 46 Charlotte the focus should not be on the $20,000 incentive. The focus should be on bringing justice to Ayanna Allen.

“There’s certainly no greater value than this young lady’s life,” said Stokes. “The community is suffering, as well as her family is suffering.”

As a proud mother Shequita Woodberry posted many photos of Ayanna on her Facebook page, making her cover photo a picture of Ayanna and her grandmother on Sunday after they were shot.
